Vacuum  MSK-200-SH is an innovative tape casting coater to make a lithium film on copper foil.  The coater uses a heatable slot-die and a fixed gap blade on a fixture with precision wheels.  Lithium molten will be extruded into the heated slot-die, then cast the melt on the copper foil, which is sucked by the heated vacuum bed.  The heated blade will scrape over the melt following the slot-die to form one sheet of precision lithium film after the casting fixture passes through the heated vacuum bed stably.  This method may make 15 -  50 micron-thick lithium film in an Ar gas glovebox.

Moveable Coating Fixture

( Patent pending)

  • The movable tape casting fixture includes a lithium melting vessel, a heatable slot die and a fixed gap blade, with 4 precision wheels, as shown in the picture on the left.

 1. Heating Vessel:

  • Made of SS 316 with dimensions of  ID25mm × height 100mm, 150 ml capacity.
  • 1/4" Ar gas inlet on the top with max. pressure 2 MPa
  • Max. heating temperature 450 °C +/- 1 °C

2. Heatable slot die:

  • Extrusion width:          150 mm 
  • Slot-die gap:               0.2 , 0.5, and 1.0 mm adjustable by including shrim
  • Max. heating temperature:  350°C +/- 1 °C

3. Heatable blade with 4 sides, fixed gap.

  • Fixed gap in 4 sides:   10 ,15, 20, 50 um ( other size available upon request)
  • Max. heating temperature:  300°C +/- 1 °C
Heatble Vacuum Bed

  • The vacuum bed is made of Aluminum alloy  ( SS316 is available at an extra cost)
  • Dimension:  Width 250 x L 400 mm
  • Effective coating area:  Width 150 x L 300 mm
  • Vacuum hole size:   1 mm diameter
  • Surface flatness:  < 5 microns
  • Max. heating temperature: 200°C +/- 1 °C
  • One moving mechanism is built into the bottom of the bed
  • Moving speed of the cating: 10-100 mm/s, adjustable
  • One oilless vacuum pump is included for sucking the substrate from the bed
Control Unit
  • The control unit is built in the bottom of the vacuum bed, which can adjust the temperature of the vessel, slot-die, and blade, as well as the vacuum bed independently
  • Adjust the moving seed of the coating fixture
  • Optional:  RS-485 port and operation software are available upon request at extra cost ( ~$800) to connect the device to a PC..   ( power cable with KF40 feedthrough is included to operate the device inside a glovebox)
